The new Sara Hildén Art Museum is a vibrant and functional space where art plays a leading role. The museum will not only take into account the existing building stock, but will complement it by placing itself as a connecting piece at the interface of two different, but historically typical, urban spaces. The architectural concept of the building lies in the contrast between its exterior and interior spaces.

Viewed from a distance, the building appears as a sculptural piece amidst traditional buildings. The building's discreet elegance conveys its status as a public cultural building.Inside, the museum reveals its open nature: The dynamic lobby spaces not only invite people to gather and engage with art but also provide insights into the exhibition process, including visually accessible conservation and workshop areas. The selectively positioned openings in the outwardly closed architecture of the art museum are integrated into the exhibition circuit in a way that not only reveals carefully curated views but also supports the visitation experience and the functioning of the gallery spaces.

The new Sara Hildén Art Museum building is located at the corner of Kuninkaankatu and Finlaysoninkatu, tying itself into the regular grid pattern of the Finlayson factory site. The museum and the museum square to be built to its east subtly reflect the scale of the surrounding factory blocks. At the same time, the art museum takes its place as a landmark building in the cityscape, placing itself alongside the Finlayson Palace and church, as a unique entity in itself.
